Weston’s Eagle Project

My name is Weston Knapp and I have lived in the Maple Hills community for my whole life. I am apart of the Boy Scouts of America, and am currently working towards my eagle badge. I wanted to inform the community that I have decided to make my eagle project beneficial to the community.

My project is to:

Build 4 new garbage can boxes to replace the old rotten ones, hold the parks garbage cans, and to prevent people from stealing them, which has been an issue in the past for them.

My Eagel Scout Project: Building 4 new garbage can boxes

  • Old boxes are falling apart and need to be replaced with new boxes.
  • The boxes prevent people from stealing the garbage cans, which has been an issue in the past.
  • Boxes had to be redesigned to accomodate different size garbage cans that may be purchased
  • Boxes have to have lock feature in order to secure garbage cans inside
  • Boxes will have a floor, and will be staked to the ground so someone can’t just simply raise the boxes off the garbage cans
  • Boxes will have to be primered and painted to survive outdoor conditions
  • We will tear apart the old boxes, and will reuse as much of old materials as we can. Whatever we do not have, will be purchased new.
  • All materials will be pre-cut, so we do not have to worry cutting materials on sight, as well as being marked where things will go together
  • One box will already be constructed by me, for visual aid as well as what the finished product will look like. Therefore there are three boxes we have to build still.

The project will be completed on two separate days: April 13th and April 27th, those are both Saturdays.

I am going to be going around the neighborhood Wednesday or Thursday asking for any possible donations to help with the construction of the boxes. The cost of the boxes runs about $300.

Thanks for your generosity

Weston Knapp

Eastside Fire and Rescue Open House

Eastside Fire and Rescue is hosting an open house at the Evergreen Community Church Fellowship Hall this Thursday, January 17th.

This open house will be from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM and refreshments will be served. The chief wants to share with our communities about the plans to move the Coalfield Station 78 to May Valley Road. The issue of volunteers for the Maple Hills Station 79 will also be addressed. In addition to the four current volunteers at the Maple Hills Station, they need to add two more in order to meet staffing requirements to prevent a home owner insurance increase.
